Detail. Propagate Progress. Recycled Paper, Wax-Based Pigments, Water-Soluble Inks, and Dyes.
(December 2016) week 1 of installation
Propagate Progress is participatory, community-building event that culminated with this sculptural installation. The public
attended an artist-led happening at Bergamot Station Center for the Arts to discuss their visions for progress. Each person
contributed their promise to the future by writing it on large-scale paper rolls, which were later transformed into the
physical sculpture. The project explores and memorializes our community’s diverse visions for society's future progress.
The paper sculpture is not intended as a permanent monument. Rather, it is a “progressive” and, therefore, ephemeral
gesture of community and will deteriorate with time and weather. In the same way “progress” today becomes history
tomorrow, this sculpture is about transformation and change.
